Senior CPC official meets Senegalese guest

China and Senegal are seeing momentum in the development of their bilateral relations since resuming diplomatic ties in October last year, said a senior official with the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Beijing Monday.

Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks in a meeting with a Senegalese Democratic Party (SDP) delegation led by Prime Minister Macky Sall, the party's deputy secretary-general.

Wang said the Senegalese government adopted a correct policy in October last year to resume diplomatic relations with China, which was sincerely supported by the two peoples of both countries and highly appreciated by the CPC and the Chinese government.

Since resuming diplomatic ties at the ambassadorial level on Oct. 25, 2005, China and Senegal have begun to conduct fruitful cooperation in various fields, Wang noted.

The CPC is ready to set up and promote party-to-party relations with the SDP, and will work with Senegal to push for the friendly relations between the two countries, he said.

Entrusted by Abdoulaye Wade, the party's secretary-general and Senegalese president, Sall is leading the SDP delegation to China. Sall said the visit indicates Senegal's sincere desire to promote the relations with China.

Although the two countries experienced twists and turns in the development of bilateral relations, the two peoples always hold friendly feelings to each other, Sall said.

The SDP attaches great importance to setting up and developing the friendly and cooperative relations with the CPC, and is ready to join the Chinese side in exploring cooperation in various fields, in an effort to further cement the bilateral friendship.

Sall and his delegation arrived here Sunday on a nine-day visit to China at the invitation of the CPC. Besides the capital city, they will also visit Ningbo, a coastal city in east China's Zhejiang Province, and China's economic hub Shanghai.
