Major political works published in China

The Central Literature Publishing House has published a selection of significant political writings in a review of the country's and Party's development over the past two years.

The second volume of Selections of Major Literature since the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is a collection of 78 essays and documents covering economics, politics, cultural, social, military, diplomacy and Party development issues.

The 810,000-character book includes 27 resolutions, laws and regulations passed by the CPC Central Committee, the National People's Congress and the State Council. There are also 51 speeches by leaders from March 2004 to October 2005.

Twenty-eight of the documents in the book are being made public for the first time.

The selection, published by the Party Literature Research Center of the CPC Central Committee, is intended to draw a picture of China's socio-economic development under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee headed by its General Secretary Hu Jintao.

The selected works include a speech by President Hu on the concept of scientific development, in which he stresses the concept was the key to solving China's development problems and urges the nation to implement the concept.

Other major works touch on improving China's legal system, the Party's governance, macro-economic control, cross-Straits relations, the anti-corruption campaign and building up a harmonious society.

Several articles also talked about China's 11th Five-Year development plan which ends in five years.
