Americans cautioned to reconsider travel to Solomon Islands
font size

The U.S. State Department on Wednesday cautioned American citizens to reconsider travel to the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific, where the potential for violence remains after two days of rioting.

The State Department advised Americans traveling to or residing in Honiara, the capital of the island country, to be alert to the potential for violence when traveling downtown.

Political protests over the controversial election of new Prime Minister Snyder Rini triggered riots in the Solomon Islands capital of Honiara last week.
