New Zealand Defense Minister Phil Goff arrived in Solomon Islands Thursday for a 24 hour tour, according to New Zealand TVNZ media.
TVNZ said a visit to the Regional Assistance Mission (RAMSI) regional force headquarters was first on Goff's agenda, before he headed to the sites of last week's riots.
Later on Thursday he met with the Solomon Islands police commissioner and New Zealand troops stationed at a prison.
Streets are now calm following the resignation of Prime Minister Snyder Rini ahead of a no-confidence vote on Wednesday.
Goff said the new prime minister will need to show they represent all Solomon Islanders.
He said he will not try to influence the decision on who should lead the Solomon Islands but will carry the message that there needs to be strong consensus.
Meantime, the curfew imposed in Honiara, the capital, last Wednesday, has now been lifted.
