Direct flights planned between Cambodia, Iran

Cambodia and Iran will have direct flights this year, local media reported on Friday.

Cambodian government plans to sign an agreement this year, allowing direct flight between Cambodia and Iran, according to the Ministry of Tourism. The IranAir flights were suggested by the Iranian Ambassador during a visit to Cambodia last week.

"We want direct flights from everywhere, Phnom Penh Airport is available for all big airlines," The Cambodia Daily quoted Tourism Ministry Secretary of State Thong Khon as saying.

Iranian Ambassador Hussain Molla Abdollahi met with tourism officials during his stay here and discussed ways to bring Iranian tourists to Cambodia, he said.

Abdollahi, who is based in Hanoi, also met National Assembly President Heng Samrin and discussed strengthening ties between the two nations. Cambodia and Iran have diplomatic relations since 1992.
