Malaysia will host the World Congress of Information Technology (WCIT) in May 2008, a senior official said Saturday.

The WCIT, Known as the IT Olympic, will bring together 30,000 companies in the industry, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Jamaludin Jarjis.

The selection of Malaysia as the host country for the prestigious world-class event shows the Malaysian government's commitment towards promoting the IT industry in the country, said Jamaludin.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will be in the United States next month to receive the torch which marks Malaysia as the next WCIT host, added Jamaludin.
