    Nationwide rallies mark "a day without immigrants" in U.S.

    Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants and their supporters staged rallies, marches and boycotts across the United States Monday, in a renewed effort to claim their rights to stay in the country. Many of them left their workplaces to take part in the nationwide Latino boycott called "a day without immigrants." Police estimated between 500,000 and 600,000 people had descended the streets of downtown of Los Angeles, the largest number in the city's history.

    China's armed police change uniforms

    Chinese armed police have begun to wear new uniforms since May 1st, in an effort to help them carry out varied missions.The regular type of the new uniforms, namely "Uniform 05" which was designed in 2005, used better materials, have more sizes, and made slight changes on chest-waist length.

    Migrant workers in Labor Day

    A couple living on collecting scraps in Chengdu is on their way home on May 1, 2006. They have been in the capital of Sichuan in southwest China for more than ten years and spent every Labor Day in hard work.

    Twenty-two Hindus killed in Indian-controlled Kashmir

    An injured man is taken to a hospital in Jammu in Indian-controlled Kashmir, May 1, 2006. At least 22 Hindus were killed by suspected militants in the Kulhan area of Bharat in Doda district, abouth 200km northeast of Jammu in Indian-controlled Kashmir on late April 30.
