Chinese boxers scored two early wins in the third Cuban Olympiad's boxing competition with flyweight world champion Zhou Shi Ming beating local champion Diosveli Vargas, and Li Yang beating Cuba's Vladimir Diaz, according to local media reports.
Li and Zhou were the only two of China's 16 boxers to score notable victories in the first two days of competition. Zhou was rated 24-3 on points in the 48kg category, while Li scored 13-8 in the 57kg category.
The boxing tournament, which is taking place in Havana's Sports City, had attracted 66 foreign boxers including 22 from Venezuela, 16 from China, 11 from the Dominican Republic, three from Kazakhstan and two from El Salvador.
Cuba's fighters are divided by region -- western, central and eastern -- and include three Olympic champions, two universal champions -- including 54 kg flyweight multi-title holder Guillermo Rigondeaux and super heavyweight Odlanier Solis.
