China exported 62,628 units of automobiles in the first quarter of this year, up 139 percent from the same period in the previous year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce.
The Ministry said during the January-March period, China's vehicle export volume amounted to 647 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 204.5 percent year on year.
During the period, China exported 16,813 units of sedans valued at 116.8 million dollars, up 458 percent and 302 percent year on year, while the export of jeeps and land rovers stood at 565 units, valuing 5.71 million dollars, a growth of 334 percent and 120 percent respectively from the same period of 2005.
Hoever, industry insiders pointed out that prices of the exported sedans and cross-country vehicles have sharply dropped, indicating a cut-throat "price war" among Chinese auto makers.
