Macao's foreign trade sees year-on-year rise in 1st quarter

Macao's exports and imports saw year- on-year rise of 36.4 percent and 28.3 percent respectively in the first quarter, according to official statistics issued on Tuesday.

The figures from the government-run Statistics and Census Services (SCS) showed that textile and garment exports, which accounted for 76.1 percent of Macao's total export value in the quarter, witnessed a year-on-year rise of 42.6 percent.

The United States and the European Union remained as Macao's major export markets in the first three months, jointly making up 68.2 percent of the total export value, the figures showed.

Meanwhile, the region's major suppliers of imported goods remained mainly in Asia, the statistics displayed.

The Chinese mainland and Hong Kong jointly constituted 53.0 percent of the total imports value in the quarter, according to the statistics.
