Zambia is likely to have a wheat shortfall of 30,000 tons this year, Zambian National Milling Corporation said here on Wednesday.
Managing Director Peter Cottan of the corporation said the southern African country will have to import the shortfall to meet its demand for around 150,000 tons.
Although it will face the shortage of wheat, Zambia is expecting a bumper harvest of its staple food of maize this year with an expected total of 1.2 million tons.
The Food Reserve Agency will buy part of the surplus maize from farmers and has also urged millers and the private sector to come on board and buy this year's surplus crop.
