Jamaica invites Malaysian national oil company for petroleum exploration
font size

Jamaica plans to invite Malaysia 's national oil corporation, Petronas, to undergo offshore petroleum exploration in the country, news reports reaching here said Wednesday.

In the face of ever increasing energy cost, Jamaica and Malaysia have agreed in principle to explore opportunities to supply more liquefied natural gas, Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller said.

Miller made the remarks at a joint press conference with visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in the capital city of Kingston.

"We will discuss these possibilities in greater detail at the level of our officials," Miller was quoted as saying by the Malaysian national news agency Bernama.

Petronas has already formed joint ventures in oil and gas exploration and production with their counterparts in more than 30 countries and regions worldwide, said the report.

Badawi arrived in Kingston Tuesday for a two-day official visit.
