Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi said the economy of Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality should be developed at a faster speed and in a sustainable way.
During her visit to Chongqing from May 1 to May 3, Wu inspected the commercial, health and tourism sectors of the municipality.
Wu said as the only municipality in West China, Chongqing should step up the progress of reform and opening up, and give full play to its advantage of market potential and low cost of labor force.
Wu also called for strengthening monitoring and prevention and control of epidemics in the municipality and improvement of medical services for farmers.
When inspecting some scenic spots, Wu said Chongqing, located near the Three Gorges Dam area on the Yangtze River, has plentiful tourism resources.
The tourism industry should be given priority and become the backbone industry of the municipality, Wu added.
