Indonesian stocks index nears 1,500 point level

The composite index of the Jakarta Stock Exchange nearly touched the psychological level of 1,500 points Wednesday as blue chips made major gains.

The composite index, which never arrived at such a level in history, was up by 23.18 points to close at 1,499.07 points.

Turnover totaled 3.6 billion shares worth 3.6 trillion rupiah ( 415.8 million U.S. dollars).

Gainers led losers 89 to 50, with 72 stocks unchanged.
