font size

As part of efforts to check human trafficking, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) are to hold a three-day meeting in Libreville, the capital of Gabon.

A statement issued here on Thursday by the ECOWAS headquarters in the Nigerian capital Abuja said that the meeting, which is scheduled for May 9-11, will consider strategies to fight human trafficking.

The statement signed by ECOWAS Executive Secretary Mohammed Ibn Chambas said the meeting would examine critical areas of long-term collaboration in view of the transnational nature of the offense.

According to the statement, the meeting would also examine regional efforts to fight the menace and work toward adopting a draft plan of action.

All recommendations suggested by experts shall be forwarded for adoption by the regional ministerial conference, it said.
