Chinese man gets 10 years' jail for beating 3-year-old son to death

A Chinese man who beat his three-year-old son to death was sentence to 10 years in prison in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, sources with a local court said Thursday.

Zheng Hai, a migrant farmer worker from central China's Henan Province, hit his son with a club on the evening of Dec. 24, 2005 because the boy was inattentive to his reading lessons.

The enraged father didn't stop the beating until Zheng's wife heard the boy choking. He ceased to breath by the time he was sent to hospital.

The boy had suffered injuries to his head, limbs and hips.
