Phase II of CNOOC's largest independent gas field comes on stream

The second phase of the China National Offshore Oil Company Limited's largest independent gas field has successfully come on stream recently.

During full-scale production, the total capacity of Dong Fang (DF) 1-1 gas field is expected to reach 98 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year.

DF1-1 gas field is located in Western South China Sea, about 110 kilometers of Dong Fang City in South China's Hainan Province. The average water depth of the field is between 63 meters and 70 meters.

The DF1-1 gas field is currently producing 187 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, of which 35 million cubic feet come from three wells in Phase Two.

The peak production capacity of Phase Two is designed at 111 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. The natural gas produced in the second phase will mainly be provided to a methanol project in Hainan Province, said sources with the CNOOC Ltd.

The first phase of the DF1-1 started operation in Sept. 2003.

Zhou Shouwei, President of the CNOOC Ltd., said the successful commencement of DF 1-1 gas field's Phase Two Project will further increase the proportion of natural gas in the production portfolio of CNOOC Ltd.

CNOOC Ltd. holds 100 percent interest of DF1-1 gas field and acts as the operator.

Incorporated in Hong Kong in August 1999, CNOOC Ltd. is the principal subsidiary of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation, China's largest offshore oil producer.
