Bangladeshi PM leaves for Kuwait to expand bilateral trade
font size

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia left Sunday for Kuwait on a two-day official visit, during which she will hold talks with her Kuwaiti counterpart on expanding bilateral trade, Kuwaiti investment, manpower export and petroleum import.

Khaleda Zia, leading a 31-member high-powered delegation, is making the visit at the invitation of Kuwaiti premier Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah.

Prime Minister's office sources said Khaleda Zia will hold official talks with Kuwaiti counterpart later Sunday on the following issues.

Bangladesh is suffering from dearth of petroleum products, which is telling on its economy badly. Bangladesh's irrigation network suffered a lot this year due to shortage of petroleum products, and the government has introduced some sort of rationing system in selling petroleum products and decided not to supply petroleum products to filling stations on weekend.

Khaleda Zia will also meet the Emir of the oil-rich Gulf state Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah on Monday.

Kuwait is interested in investing in Bangladesh in many fields. Prime Minister Zia will also discuss with his counterpart on the issues of the Middle East and other international issues of mutual concern.
