Beijing's foreign trade soars 36.8 pct in 1st quarter

Beijing's foreign trade volume shot up 36.8 percent in the first quarter this year to reach 35.76 billion U.S. dollars year on year, according to Beijing Municipal Statistics Bureau.

Export volume was 7.94 billion dollars in the three months, up 21.3 percent over the corresponding period of last year, and import volume totaled 27.82 billion dollars, a drastic increase of 42 percent.

Beijing hosted 712,000 overseas tourists in the first quarter, a rise of 8.5 percent.
