Senior leaders watch Tibetan drama "Princess Wen Cheng"

Senior Chinese leaders Jia Qinglin and Li Changchun on Monday watched a Tibetan drama called Princess Wen Cheng.

As one of the eight classical Tibetan dramas, Princess Wen Cheng for first time combined Beijing opera and Tibetan drama in its rehearsal, which tells the story of the princess with featured performances and costumes of the both stage arts.

Jia Qinglin and Li Changchun, members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee, watched the play with nearly 1,000 audience Monday evening.

Jia is also chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Princess Wen Cheng was a daughter of Li Shimin, Emperor of Tang Dynasty (618-907), married Tibetan King Songtsan Gambo in 641. She took with her large quantities of silk fabrics, handicrafts and farm tools to Tibet. Her statute is still enshrined and worshiped in Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region.
