The Nepali government Tuesday evening annulled royal ordinances promulgated by King Gyanendra government.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held at Prime Minister GP Koirala's residence in Kathmandu.
According to Minister for Finance Ram Sharan Mahat, with this decision, some of the ordinances that include "ordinance to amend some laws related to media", "general administration ordinance" and "ordinance of NGO Code of Conduct" have been made invalid.
Mahat told reporters that the meeting also discussed the expansion of the cabinet.
Months after the controversy and protests, the King in October last year, promulgated an ordinance to amend some laws related to the media, imposing severe restrictions on the free press.
