There is no chance at present for a renegotiation of milk quotas because no other EU country except Poland is interested in a redistribution of quotas, head of the agriculture committee of the European Parliament Joseph Daul was quoted by Polish News Agency (PAP) as saying.
His declaration came during a press conference here Wednesday held after a meeting between EP committee members visiting Warsaw and members of the Sejm and Senate farming committees.
Daul added that some 80 percent of EU member countries were not satisfied with their milk quotas, but even so they were not inclined to reopen talks on this matter.
Polish Parliament members pointed out that Polish milk producers exceeded their quotas already in the second year after their introduction and faced penalties.
One of the Polish Parliament members proposed that the EU lifted the penalties this year or agree to payments by installments in view of the restructuring process under way in the dairy sector. The proposal met with Daul's approval.
In line with the Accession Treaty, Poland has received an annual quota of 8 million and 642,000 tons, while Polish dairies have procured some 8 million and 930,000 tons of milk in the 2005/ 2006 quota year.
