Navy prefers good-looking, tall and polite recruits
font size

The navy has set some new requirements for new recruits in 2006: newcomers should be good-looking, tall and polite.

The male should be at least 1.70 meters tall and the female at least 1.65 meters tall, said a navy official on Thursday.

He also said that as the Chinese navy often visits other countries or receives other countries' naval vessels, servicemen should be good-looking and polite.

But he stressed that appearance is just one of the requirements for newcomers. They will also undertake tough examinations, which include professional knowledge, physical and psychological tests.

The candidates who pass the tests will receive face-to-face interviews, file examination and physical re-examination. The final recruitment result will be released to the public.
