Noodle eating competition in Beijing
Some 100 participants took part in an entirely new sort of "Zhajiang noodle" (noodle served with fried bean sauces) competition held in north Beijing's Zhongguancun, May 10. Young man Yin has won the champion by finishing half kilogramme of noodle within 12 seconds after ten rounds of contest.

Russian helicopter crashed into sea
A Russian helicopter crashed into the Sea of Okhotsk during joint rescue exercises with Japan on Thursday, killing one of the 13 people on board. The Mi-14 helicopter went down off the Russian island of Sakhalin, north of Japan's Hokkaido, when one of its rotor blades hit the water during exercises, said Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman Viktor Beltsov.

"Freedom of the Seas" concludes inaugural trip
Photo taken on May 10 shows that "Freedom of the Seas" sails into the Hudson River near New York, May 10. "Freedom of the Sea", the biggest passenger liner in history has a total tonnage of 158,000 tons. With a length of 339 meters, it can accommodate some 4,300 passengers and 1,300 crewmembers at the same time. The biggest luxury passenger ship set off its inaugural trip from Hamburg, Germany on April 25, and it finally arrived in New York by crossing the Atlantic.

US Fed raises interest rates to 5-year high
The U.S. Federal Reserve raised a key interest rate again Wednesday to 5 percent, from 4.75 percent, and said that it may keep raising rates in the coming months to contain inflation but that the timing of any increases will depend on how the economy is doing. Clerks relay deals in the Euro Dollar Pit at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange after the Fed raised interest rates May 10.
