    East China provinces transfer prisoners

    A special train carrying hundreds of criminals from Zhejiang arrived in Hefei early Sunday, and all the prisoners will be transferred to other prisons in Anhui prisons. During the prisoners transfer, local police departments have employed several thousand of manpower including policemen, armed police as well as prison guards. No accidents have been reported during the whole process of prisoners' transfer and all the prisoners have been transferred to the destination safely.

    "Cheongsam Show" of ambassadors' madams

    Madam of Bangladesh's ambassador to China (L) and Madam of ROK's ambassador to China won the first prize for the "cheongsam show" of the Friendship Competition of Ambassador's Madam on Knowing Chinese Culture. The month long competition features Kunqu opera, tea ceremony, cheongsam show as well as handcrafts making, which attracted some 240 madams of ambassadors from 107 countries.

    US anti-war mothers hold demonstrations

    An anti-war activist delivered a speech amid the demonstration outside the White House on May 13. On the eve of Mother's Day this year, National Organization of Women (NOW) in the US held a 24-hour demonstration outside the White House, protesting the war in Iraq and demanding the quick withdrawal of US troop.

    Hainan on alert of "pearl"

    Fishing boats berth in an inlet to shelter from the wind in Haikou, capital of south China's Hainan Province, May 14, 2006, ahead of the coming of Chanchu. Chanchu, which means "pearl", the first tropical storm of the year that intensified into a typhoon and roared over the South China Sea Saturday, will bring high winds and heavy rain to many parts of south China in the coming three days, including Hainan Province, meteorologists said Sunday.

    Bombs kill 24 in Baghdad

    A string of car bombs and roadside bombs raged across Baghdad on Sunday, killing at least 24 civilians and wounding dozens of others as political leaders are struggling to form a much-awaited government.

Thousands of people fled the fertile slopes of Indonesia's most dangerous volcano Saturday as glowing lava oozed down the side and ash and rock spewed from the mountaintop.

    Japanese monk sorry for war crimes
