A total of 43 experts dispatched by the Three Gorges Construction Committee under the State Council launched a checkup on the quality and process of the right bank dam of the Three Gorges Project on May 14.

Concrete pouring of the gigantic dam is expected to finish on May 20, said Cao Guangjing, vice manager of China Yangtze River Three Gorges Project Development Corporation.

Construction of the Three Gorges Project is divided into three stages. The third stage, or the dam construction, which began to be built in early 2004, is scheduled to be completed in 2009.

The inspection will last till May 23. By then, the expert panel will make a final appraisal on whether the right bank dam could be able to hold water. Later on, checks on resident relocation and power transmission system will also be carried out.

During the inspection, metal structure, equipment and excavation projects 160 meters below the sea level will be examined. In addition, detailed checkup on the entrances of underground power stations at the right bank dam will also be carried out.

Expert panel of China Yangtze River Three Gorges Project Development Corporation has submitted a report on the project's quality checkup to the State Council. The report shows the dam project has met quality requirements.
