Singaporean Minister Mentor visits NE China's province

Singaporean Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew Sunday has concluded a two-day visit to northeast China's Liaoning Province with praise for its development.

"Cooperation between Liaoning and Singapore is very good, and we should go on promoting cooperation and seek mutual benefits," Li Keqiang, secretary of the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Liaoning People's Congress, said in a meeting with Lee Kuan Yew.

Liaoning province, a traditional industrial base, would take advantage of its 2,200-km coastline and encourage port-related industry and coastal trade, Li said.

Lee, who visited the provincial capital Shenyang in 1994, said the city's remarkable changes over the past decade and more impressed him. "The air quality is better, more trees are planted, and the city is promising," he noted.

During his stay, Lee also met with Zhang Wenyue, the provincial governor.

Lee visited the Imperial Palace and Garden for World Horticultural Exhibition in Shenyang before he and his party left for Shanghai Sunday.
