Chinese police use new databases to crack murder casesThe Chinese police authorities have set up an unidentified body database, a DNA information database, a murder case database and a missing persons database to improve efficiency of cracking murder cases. He Ting, director of the criminal investigation department under the Ministry of Public Security, said local police authorities, during their murder investigations, were required to conduct careful examination of every unidentified body, collect its DNA information and and save them to the databases. As long as police authorities receive reports on missing persons, the police will collect the relevant information about them, including his or her DNA information and save them into the database. Through consulting the databases, police may confirm the identities of some bodies. With the growing number of migrant workers, he said, the number of missing citizens has been on rise with some of them probably killed. Under such circumstances, the databases will help improve the efficiency of murder case handling. But he failed to disclose how many unidentified bodies, missing people, or items on DNA information have been saved to the databases. Source: Xinhua |
