An official with the Ministry of Commerce said Tuesday that China is disappointed the U.S. government has refused the application for market economy status submitted by China's stationery enterprises.
The official said China has noticed that the Commerce Department of the United States published Monday on its website a memorandum refusing the application for market economy status by China's enterprises in its anti-dumping investigation against China's lined school paper suppliers.
The official said China has built the market economy system which is recognized by a number of countries. It is inappropriate and unfair for the U.S. Commerce Department to make such a decision when Sino-U.S. economic and trade relations are progressing smoothly.
The official said the U.S. government should treat the application by China's enterprises for market economy status in a fair manner and give fair treatment to Chinese enterprises in its anti-dumping investigation while recognizing the achievements China made in building its market economy system.
