Ericsson opens office in Nairobi

Ericsson, a leading telecommunication technology provider, has opened a regional office in Nairobi, Kenyan to service the eastern Africa market, local media reported Wednesday.

According to local daily The Standard, the firm said on Tuesday that the Nairobi office would act as leverage for its operations and help keep pace with the competition in the rapidly growing telecommunication technology sub-sector.

"Ericsson is committed to sharing its global experience, best practice and expertise by partnering with its customers in east Africa," Thomas Sonesson, the managing director of Ericsson Kenya said shortly after the company announced its entry into the regional market.

Ericsson Kenya is planning to service at least 20 key customers in nine countries, while using Kenya as its operation hub.

The new office is expected to employ some 65 people "which is in keeping with our commitment to local markets to use our leadership in communications technology to help improve quality of life and productivity."
