China to tighten Internet security
font size

China will improve a supervision system over its Internet security by developing and adopting new technologies, Xi Guohua, vice minister of information industry, said Wednesday at a conference in Beijing marking the 38th World Telecommunications Day.

China faces severe security problems in Internet information, and the country will enhance its protection system of information security and build backup information copies in case of emergency and disaster.

The theme for the World Telecommunications Day is "Promoting Global Cybersecurity". Computer virus, harmful information and online crimes have made it crucial for IT people to enhance Internet security.

In China, the Internet has security loopholes and vulgar contents are common. Supervising departments are obliged to enhance their ability of tackling security accidents, said Xi.

The ministry, along with other departments, will put emphasis on the development of key technologies relating to Internet security, he said.

Statistics from the ministry show that the number of netizens in the country exceeded 110 million, only next to the United States.
