font size

An apparently suicide bomb attack left one American trooper dead and injured five others in Western Afghanistan Thursday morning, said officials.

"At 9 o'clock this morning, an explosion suspected to be a suicide attack occurred in Herat," 630 kilometers west of Kabul, leaving one person dead and five others wounded, Major Toby Jackman, a spokesman of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), told Xinhua.

All the victims, he added, belonged to the Combined Forces Command (CFC).

He declined to comment on the identity of the victims of the explosion but said, "There is no ISAF people."

Combined Forces Command, which is mainly involved in war against the Taliban militants and associated groups, has been running by the American forces.

Police chief of Herat Mohammad Ayub Salangi told Xinhua that the diseased soldier is an American.

He also confirmed that the attacker was also killed in the explosion.

Suicide attacks is on rise and over 20 of such incidents have been registered since last November.
