Nikkei falls below 16,000 in morning for 1st time in 2 months

Japan's key Nikkei stock index fell below the 16,000 line for the first time in more than two months Thursday morning in the wake of an overnight plunge in U.S. shares.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 327.32 points, or 2.01 percent, to end the morning at 15,980.35, crossing the 16,000 threshold for the first time since March 10.

The Tokyo Stock Price Index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange declined 37.17 points, or 2.24 percent, to 1, 619.90.
