China cherishes friendship with Romania, top legislator says

China attaches great importance to the development of the Sino-Romanian friendship and always regards Romania as China's good friend and good partner, visiting Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo said on Thursday in Bucharest.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, made the remarks while addressing the Romanian parliament.

Wu was here for a three-day official good-will visit. Over 600 Romanian parliamentarians and representatives of various circles were present at Wu's speech.

Deepening traditional friendship and promoting joint development are the main topics of Wu's speech. The two countries have always enjoyed a long-term friendly relationship though they are geographically far away, the Chinese top legislator said.

No matter what happened domestically and internationally, the two countries have always been supporting each other, he said.

China respects Romania's social system and development as well as its policy of closer ties with Europe, Wu noted.

He also talked about Sino-EU relations in his speech, saying the development of the relationship would not only benefit China and the European Union, but also be conducive to world peace, stability.

Bogdan Olteanu, president of Romanian Chamber of Deputies, said in his welcoming address that Wu's visit to Romania is of great importance to the development of relations between the two countries.
