Rumors of an avian influenza outbreak in Zambia's copperbelt province bordering the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has led to a ban on poultry imports from Zambia, Saturday Post reported.
The Poultry Association of Zambia (PAZ) on Friday noted the need for an urgent meeting between authorities of the Zambian and DRC governments to quickly address the issue, as the ban will negatively affect the market in Zambia.
Zambia's largest producers of layers, who are mostly based in the province have had to offload all the products onto the Lusaka and other markets within the country after the ban, the Zambian newspaper reported.
