font size

France and Morocco said on Saturday they would strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking.

"We have decided to reinforce the cooperation in fighting terrorism and drug trafficking," said French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy in the southern Moroccan city of Marrakech after meeting with his Moroccan counterpart Chakib Benmoussa.

Benmoussa said the two countries will step up cooperation in fighting terrorism, especially in the dismantlement of a number of terrorist cells in the region.

According to a joint statement issued after the meeting, Sarkozy and Benmoussa have made an evaluation on the menace of terrorism in the region.

Sarkozy and Benmoussa also talked about the issue of illegal migrants. They agreed to step up efforts to bring the issue under control, and at the same time offer technological and financial aid to the west Mediterranean countries to help stem illegal migrants from flooding in.
