font size

Visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Shanghai Monday evening for the second leg of her three-day China visit.

In Shanghai, Merkel is scheduled to ride the world's only commercially operating maglev line built with German technology.

During her stay in Beijing, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Merkel and Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with her. The two heads of government exchanged views on a wide range of issues concerning politics, economics, trade, technology, sports, culture and environmental protection, and reached broad consensus.

Merkel is invited by Wen for an official visit to China from May 21 to 23. This is her first China visit since she took office in November 2005.
