An optic fiber network project undertaken by a Chinese company started recently in Zambia, representative of the company said in a telephone interview on Tuesday.
Yang Hong, ZTE representative to Zambia, said in Ndola, northern Zambia, that the company won the bid in mid-last year and the project would cost around 11 million US dollars.
He said that the optic fiber network will not only facilitate effective communication at a cheaper rate in the country but also as a hub benefits the telecommunication development of other countries in the region.
The project will be completed next year, Yang said.
The ZTE, which entered into Zambia in 2000, now occupies half of the telecommunication equipment market of the southern African country.
