A total of 922,200 laptops were sold in China in the first quarter of this year, up 38.9 percent over last year, Wednesday's China Securities Journal reports.

According to a report by the CCID Consulting, a famous consulting company in China, the sales volume reached 8.951 billion yuan (1.1 billion U.S. dollars), up 23 percent on the previous year, much higher than the growth rate of desktop computers and servers in the same period.

In total, 5.29 million computers have been sold in China in the first quarter, up 15.9 percent. The sales volume was 30.597 billion yuan, up 5.14 percent.

The sales of periphery equipment also showed rapid growth in the first quarter with sales reaching 50.086 million sets, an increase of 41.3 percent year-on-year, of which the sales of external storage disks, projector and all-in-one machines increased more than 30 percent, but the sales only went up 15 percent due to the fast decline of prices of the products.
