Pakistan, Iran agree not to yield to external pressure on IPI gas pipeline
font size

Pakistan and Iran Friday agreed not to yield to any external pressure on Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline and go ahead to launch the project at any cost.

Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf and Iran's Vice President Pervez Dawoodi held talks at the president camp office and vowed to finalize IPI gas pipeline at the earliest.

They exchanged views on several important issues during wide- ranging talks, with focus on economic ties, Iran's peaceful nuclear program and international issues.

They said they hoped that the project would be finalized within a few weeks.

"We will go ahead to implement IPI gas pipeline even if India does not join this project in order to meet the energy requirements of the country," Musharraf said.

"Pakistan acknowledges Iran's right to acquire peaceful nuclear technology and would strongly oppose any use of force against Iran over this issue," he said.

"Pakistan wants peaceful solution of the problem through dialogue," he added.

Dawoodi lauded the Pakistan's stand on IPI gas pipeline project and Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

Iran and Pakistan would further enhance cooperation and collaboration in all fields, he said.
