Senior Taliban leaders killed in Afghanistan

The U.S.-led Coalition forces conducted a precision strike in Afghanistan's southern province of Helmand, killing five extremists, said the Coalition on Saturday.

Among those killed Friday night in an isolated training facility near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border were key senior leaders of the Taliban network, the Coalition said in a press release.

The extremists have conducted attacks against Coalition and Afghan forces, Afghan officials and civilians, it added.

Coalition ground forces on the scene confirmed that damage was limited to the destruction of one targeted vehicle and two targeted buildings.

There were no reports of injuries to civilians or damage to property.

A large cache was also discovered at the target location, said the Coalition. Two concealed fighting positions were also discovered, both containing explosives and heavy machine guns and were destroyed in place.

More than 350 people including five foreign soldiers have been killed in Taliban-linked militancy in the volatile southern region since early last week.
