Iran expressed on Saturday regret over a massive quake which hit Indonesia earlier in the day, the official IRNA news agency reported.

In a message to Indonesia, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid- Reza Asefi condoled the Indonesian nation and government, particularly the families of the victims, the report said.

More than 2,700 people were killed and thousands of others injured in a powerful earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale which rocked the province of Yogyakarta on Indonesia's main island of Java on Saturday.
