An Italian air force fighter jet on Saturday intercepted a Moldavian cargo plane which entered Italian airspace without filing all its flight plans, the air force said.
The Moldavian cargo plane, which flew from Libya into Italian airspace, was intercepted by Italy's F-16 fighter jet in the skies above Ponza, a small island off Italy's west coast.
The F-16 escorted the cargo plane to its destination, Rimini airport on Italy's east coast, the air force said.
An investigation has been launched to find out why the Moldavian Aeronord cargo plane's crew had not communicated their flights plans to the Eurocontrol center as they were supposed to.
