font size

Singapore on Sunday sent two aid teams to Indonesia's central Java to help quake victims there.

According to local press reports, the two teams, a 35-member military medical team and a 43-member Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) disaster assistance and rescue team, left here this morning in three military planes.

The SCDF team, which is carrying food, fuel and equipment to last two weeks, includes medical personnel and three search dogs.

In addition, Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Saturday night made a phone call to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to convey the city state's deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the earthquake in Central Java where a powerful earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale occurred earlier Saturday, and caused heavy casualties and property losses.

In his telephone conversation, Lee also offered the humanitarian relief assistance which also includes a total of 50, 000 U.S. dollars worth of emergency supplies such as medical supplies, blankets and tents.
