font size

A team of 45 Australian police will be deployed in Timor-Leste on Monday morning in order to help stabilize the violence-torn country, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said on Sunday.

The team will be in addition to a six-member AFP advisory group which arrived in Timor-Leste's capital of Dili Sunday.

The Australian police will be assessing the situation in Timor- Leste and give advice to the 1,300-strong Australian soldiers who are already there on a peace-keeping mission in response to the request of the local government, said the AFP in a press release.
