font size

A leader of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), who earlier survived an assassination attempt, was killed in a bomb attack on his sickbed in Khulna Medical College Hospital in southwestern Bangladesh Sunday night.

Police and medical sources said the victim, Mafiz Biswas, 37, was a BNP leader of Narail district, adjacent to Khulna.

Witnesses said miscreants lobbed a bomb into the hospital room where he was admitted with splinter injuries earlier. He died on the spot.

Earlier, he was injured in a bomb attack in Narail district on May 5.

Police could not immediately say the motive behind the blast. None has claimed the responsibility of the blast so far.
