Transsexual wants to compete in Miss World beauty pageant
Gao Tingting, a transsexual who entered for the 56th Miss World Beauty Pageant on Saturday, May 27, 2006 is still waiting for the reply from the organizer of the contest. Gao said "she" is still a man because the transsexual surgery is not completed yet. Gao is confident that "her" performance will outpace that of Chen Lili, a transsexual from southwest China's Sichuan Province who participated in the Miss Universe China contest in 2004.

Death toll of Indonesia quake hits 5,136

The death toll of Saturday's earthquake that struck central Java areas in Indonesia reached 5,136 on Monday. It is considered to be the country's worst disaster since the December 2004 tsunami that killed 131,000 people in Aceh.

Ten Russian children who suffered psychological trauma in Russia's Beslan hostage crisis two years ago have finished a month's treatment at the Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine here. The recuperative treatment involved both Western and traditional Chinese therapies along with entertainment activities.
