    Former Russian aircraft carrier Minsk sold for 128.3 mln yuan

CITIC Shenzhen Group bought former Russian aircraft carrier Minsk with 128.3 million yuan at an auction held in south China's Shenzhen on Wednesday, including fixed asset and intangible assets such as ship body, supplementary facilities, equipment, buildings, projects under constructions and vehicles.

    Beijing Benz unveils Chinese mark

    A China-made Benz E-class car with Chinese mark parks in the new factory district of Beijing Benz Daimler Chrysler Limited Company (BBDC). According to BBDC, the China-made Benz cars have got its Chinese mark reading"Beijing Benz-Daimler Chrysler". The Chinese marks have appeared on the rear of all China-made Benz cars.

    Man-made lake in Turpan, Xinjiang

    The photo taken on May 31, 2006 shows the evening scene of the newly-built man-made lake in Turpan, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The main part of the Turpan man-made lake project had been completed and it started to retain water, bringing beauty and coolness to the city famous for its torridity. The water in the lake coming from Tianshan Mountain could be used in farm irrigation after circulating through the lake.

    Orphans dance to celebrate Int'l Children's Day

Liu, a student of the school, has a dream of becoming a prominent dancer. The ensemble, formed by the school, has 106 orphan students. It was preparing a performance for the celebration of the International Children's Day.

    ARJ21 regional jet to begin trial-produce

    The computer-drawn image shows an ARJ21 regional jet. China's self-developed ARJ21 turbofan regional passenger jet has completed the tasks in the design phase, and the trail produce will be in full swing, Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense announced on Wednesday.

    Paris hit by new wave of violences

    Two police officers get away from a police car hit by tear bomb in Montfermeil, North suburb of Paris, Tuesday, May 30, 2006. Over 100 youths took to the street with baseball bats and hurled stones at local government buildings and mayor��s house in Montfermeil. Police said this is the worst violence since the riot in Paris in October 2005.

    Killing of innocent Iraqis more unforgivable than prisoners' abuse

    Video grab shows that workers are carrying the body of an innocent Iraqi killed by US soldiers in western Iraq. Democratic representative John Murtha said on May 28th that there is enough evidence to prove US soldiers killed 24 innocent Iraqi civilians in Nov. 2005. He held that such incident would bring more damage to the US reputation that the scandal of Abu Ghraib prisoners' abuse did.

    Shanghai first issues the new police certificate

    On May 31st, Shanghai issued the new nationwide-unified police certificate. 200 policemen coming from the public security bureau and the armed forces participated in ceremony celebrating the first publication of the new certificate.

    Tigress gives birth to quadruplet ligers

    The tigress shows care for its liger cub at Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park in China's southernmost island province of Hainan May 30, 2006. A couple, the four-year-old male lion and six-year-old tigress, gave birth naturally to quadruplet ligers, two males and two females, on March 23, 2006, and now they have a total of six children survived, a twins and quadruplets since they lived together in captivity in 2004. Liger is a rare lion-tiger hybrid which normally has a short life expectancy.

    The Second Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum opened in Beijing May 31, 2006. The meeting will last for two days.

    Valuable cultural relics excavated from ancient tomb

    An archeologist takes photo for unearthed cultural relics in an ancient tomb at Chenpo Village of Xiangfan, a city in central China's Hubei province. Archeologists have almost completed the excavation of a small ancient tomb dating back to the Period of Warring States (475-221 B.C.) at Chenpo Village. More than a hundred valuable cultural relics like copper swords and jade articles were unearthed, from which the archeologists judged that the tomb owner should be a high-ranking noble of the Chu state.

    China starts its rescue work in Indonesia
