A visiting Chinese delegation pledged on Wednesday to forge close ties with Mashonaland East province, which lies about 80 kilometers southeast to the country's capital of Harare.

"I have seen some areas for possible cooperation," said Wang Yunze, head of the delegation from the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, when he visited farms in the province.

Wang said he would inform the Chinese government on the possible areas for cooperation and assistance.

Mashonaland East Governor Ray Kaukonde, who accompanied the delegation on the tour, commended the Chinese for their interest in supporting Zimbabwe's local government institutions.

The Chinese delegation arrived in Harare on Monday for a three- day goodwill visit to Zimbabwe.
