Macao's exports and imports saw year- on-year rise of 38.5 percent and 29.1 percent respectively in the first four months of this year, according to official statistics issued Friday.

The figures released by the government-run Statistics and Census Services (SCS) showed that textile and garment exports, which accounted for 75.1 percent of Macao's total export value in January-April, rose 44.4 percent year-on-year.

The United States and the European Union remained as Macao's major export markets, jointly making up 66.7 percent of the total export value.

The region's major suppliers of imported goods remained in Asia, the statistics displayed.

The Chinese mainland and Hong Kong jointly constituted 54.4 percent of the total imports value in the quarter, according to the statistics.
